Quantitative Image Analysis with Mathematical Morphology
نویسندگان
چکیده
This papers deals with the analysis of shape and size of the debris particles obtained from wear experiments on polymers using image processing. Two analysis techniques that are very promising in this respect are the morphological pattern spectrum and the Fourier spectrum. They can be used to extract parameters that relate to particle size and shape. We experimentally compare different choices for these parameters in order to determine the usefulness of the pattern spectrum in the field of material science. The first tests were done on a polymer called “polyimide”. We performed wear experiments with different temperatures, loads and frequencies. In the future we will perform experiments on composite materials. Keywords— mathematical morphology; sliding bearing materials; pattern spectrum; opening tree; fast Fourier transform

Microscopic image analysis using mathematical morphology: Application to haematological cytology
The mathematical morphology is a non-linear image processing approach which is based on the application of lattice theory to spatial structures. This technique is proven to be a very powerful tool in microscopic image analysis. In this chapter, we present the architecture of a system of quantitative microscopy which yields an integrated platform for the morphological image analysis, pattern rec...
متن کاملMorphological Algorithms for Color Images Based on a Generic-programming Approach
The main purpose of image processing and analysis is, often, to segment the image into objects in order to analyze the geometrical properties and the structure of the objects and recognize them. The analysis of the geometric objects must be quantitative, because only such an analysis and description of the geometric objects can provide a coherent mathematical framework for describing the spatia...
متن کاملC - Factor : a Morphological
Mathematical Morphology is a relatively new approach that is being applied to image processing and analysis. The approach of Mathematical Morphology is one that is based on shape. Hence the morphological tools are well suited to the problems of shape analysis. The concept of shape is quite abstract and it is rather diicult to quantify shape. In this paper, a simple quantitative shape descriptor...

In the last few years, technology has provided new instruments for the three-dimensional analysis of human facial morphology. Currently, quantitative assessments of dimensions, spatial positions and relative proportions of distinctive facial features can be obtained for both softand hard(skeletal and dental) tissues. New mathematical tools allow to fuse digital data obtained from various image ...
